FTP Applications

If you are using a web authoring program that does not have FTP capabilities (or has a really bad FTP interface like FrontPage) then we recommend one of the following FTP programs. After you have created your web site on your hard drive and are ready to upload it then you will need one of the following FTP programs depending on your computer and software.

FileZilla: Free FTP program. FileZilla is a fast FTP and SFTP client for Windows with a lot of features.

SMARTFTP: Free for personal use and has all the features needed to upload files.

FTP Explorer : this is a popular program and the download is free. If you qualify you can continue using is for free as well.

FireFTP: This wonderful tool is an extension of the browser FireFox from Mozilla. Free and highly ecommended.

WS-FTP: Pretty standard program that will do the job well. Used to be fre.

CuteFTP: Old favorite by many of our users.

Absolute FTP: Vandyke software is well supported.

FTP Via Your Browser : Yes, you can even use your browser to upload and download files.

Fetch: This is the old Mac standby for FTP. You probably already have it on your machine. If not, I’d get Transmit instead.

Transmit: This is a new favorite around here.

Interarchy: This is another FTP client beloved by many Mac geeks.
